Since our inception in 1975, Product Chain’s client portfolio has represented a diverse spectrum of grocery and pharmacy products, but it was the early 1990s when the company’s passion for environmentally friendly products developed.

At that time environmental issues were leading many news bulletins. The Exxon Valdez disaster, scares about global warming, and the discovery of human variant CJD all gave grist to the ‘green’ lobby and raised public awareness of the potentially disastrous consequences of modern living. In accord with this state of ‘knowing’ we took a conscious decision to promote products that were organic, or natural, or had attributes that were environmentally friendly.

Product Chain brought one of the first of these types of products to the UK from Belgium. It was a revolutionary new detergent that was high in surfactants but low in pollutants: its name was Ecover. Today, the second generation of Ecover, Biocare, has been launched: increased efficiency and the addition of ‘kind’ ingredients such as Aloe Vera make it an attractive proposition that has been positively received.

Other notable successes include the introduction of Grove Fresh Organic Juices, caffeine free Rooibos tea, Amy’s Natural & Organic Foods, Wholebake cereal and seed bars. These brands have seen remarkable success: Rooibos tea is the second highest selling specialist tea after Earl Grey, and the brand owners of Grove Fresh were listed as the Top 100 Growth Company in 2003 (Indi Delloitte Touch).
